DEFEAT OF THE AMNESTY BILL

June 29th, 2007 by Rory Olsen

It appears that the immigration Amnesty Bill is dead as the proverbial doorknob for the foreseeable future.

While that bill deserved to go down in flames, the matter still needs to be addressed for several reasons.

First, considering that the world is full of evil people who mean America harm, it would be a highly sensible idea to control who crosses the border. America’s failure to control our borders is very, very irresponsible.

Second, the current situation is not fair, just or reasonable for either people here in the US legally, or for those here illegally. By having a large population of people here in a hazy legal status, we have created a situation in which we have a large underclass who is easy prey for the unscrupulous, since fear of deportation is a major deterrent to reporting crime. People on the margins of society are too often victimized.

I’m offering no predictions or solutions.  All I am doing is saying that the current system is very badly broken and needs to be fixed very soon.
