Why do kids decide to become lawyers? Now we know!

On Fridays I am at my other office out at the mental hospital, so I make my courtroom available to student groups who wish to hold mock trials in my courtroom. Recently, I received this thank you letter from one the student participants in a mock trial. I’ve edited it to prevent the writer from being embarrassed when she is older and presumably wiser.

Dear Judge Olsen,

     First of I want to thank you and tell you how much I and the rest of my classmates appreciated you letting us use your courtroom.  I really respect and have much honor for you you; having so much patience and the intelligence just to find justice in our community. I must say…you are a very big inspiration to me, after having an idea of how your whole business works I’ve been thinking lately that being a judge or lawyer might be my thing.  In our trip to the courtroom I realized that it was pretty cool and I liked the fact that everythings so well organized and professional….Saying your honor for everything was something that I really liked because I’m the type of girl that wants people to have lots of respect for. I thank you again for giving…the opportunity to use your courtroom.

This young lady will probably be a leading light of the bar in another fifteen or twenty years from now. After that, she’ll be ready for a long career on the bench.  She really does seem to have the attitude down pat, doesn’t she?
