Parking Lot

January 11th, 2008 by Rory Olsen

Last night I was preparing to leave a strip shopping center parking lot in the early evening. As I approached my vehicle, I clicked the remote access device on my key ring. It worked as it always does, unlocking my vehicle and turning on my headlights. As I entered the vehicle, I noticed that the lights were on in the car parked in front of me. I found that strange, because the car parked in front of me was apparently vacant.

Since I was parked in front of a store, I assumed that the occupant of the other vehicle might be in the store, so I clicked the remote access to close up my vehicle. It did that just fine. I noticed that the lights were off on the other vehicle.

I was now curious if both of our vehicles were controlled by the same frequency. The idea made sense because I drive a Ford and the car parked in front of me was a Lincoln-Mercury.

Not knowing what was the correct thing to do under the circumstances, I entered my vehicle and drove far enough away so that if I walked back to the other vehicle to secure it, my F-150 would be out of range.

It worked. When I secured my F-150, I noticed that there was no visible response from the Lincoln-Mercury. So I walked back to it and clicked my remote control. It reacted as if it was now shut down.

I walked back to my truck and drove off, feeling as if I had done some good for someone that night.
