Guerrilla Warfare

Since my last posting, my knee healed. Unfortunately, I developed a small medical problem that will require me to be on medication for a few months. Part of the regime requires that I have my blood tested periodically to see if the medication is working properly.

Over the weekend, my doctor called me to remind me to get my blood tested this week. Unfortunately for my schedule, my daughter is getting married on Saturday, so my time is rather limited.  I was able to jiggle my schedule to let me go in for the blood work yesterday.

Like anything medical nowadays, there is a procedure to be followed.

  1. The doctor’s office is supposed to notify the registration people so when you show up, they will have your forms ready.
  2. Go to the doctor’s office and have them mark off what tests are needed on the forms that you acquired in step #1.
  3. Go to the lab.
  4. Pay at the cashier or work out whatever you do with the insurance company.

For me the system fell apart at step two. I wound up sitting for thirty minutes in the doctor’s waiting room. My time was limited, so an idea popped into my demented brain. I took my cell phone and called the doctor’s nurse who was a few feet on the other side of the sliding glass windows and asked her if she could get the form to the doctor so I could be on my merry way.

It worked. She took the forms and slipped them to the doctor. Two minutes later I was off to the lab.

Sometimes I amaze myself with my ability to work around problems! Yesterday was one of those times.
