Hurricane Ike–Third Story

October 14th, 2008 by Rory Olsen

After my power returned and downtown Houston came back to life, I was ready to forget Ike.

I had one last reminder of Ike in store. On my way to the office one morning a few days later, I stopped by my local bank branch to deposit a check. I didn’t get a chance. The parking lot was closed off with yellow tape. In the lot there were a bunch of people in haz-mat suits hauling sheet rock out of the building.

My initial reaction was, tongue in cheek, that the toxic mortgage problem must be worse than I thought! My reaction was prescient as subsequent events have shown.
